A few months ago I had a shoot with the Harbour City Bears for their annual Mardi Gras festival, Bear Essentials. Every year bears, cubs, daddies, beefy blokes, and furry dudes of all shapes and sizes come from all over Australia and the world to enjoy this event filled festival.

The theme for Bear Essentials 16 is ‘A Whole New Ball Game’, so obviously the photos reflect the sporting theme. Taking inspiration from football, rugby union, rugby league, pool, AFL (Aussie Rules) and more, three affable models got their kit on and off for the shoot at The Oxford Hotel and Kingsteam.

A number of images are being used both on the website and posters, flyers and media for the festival as a whole and the individual events. You can see all the images from the campaign plus a selection that didn’t make the cut but are stand-outs on Flickr.

Thanks to Harbour City Bears and their President Jonny Bastin for asking me to do the job, plus the models Gavin P, David and Gavin S for their time.

So that’s month number 3 finished and here are my favourite images from 365:2010 in March:

PINK STAR
Nice little graphic image painted on the front of a store in Surry Hills

SUNDAY MORNING SWIM
When I can on a Sunday morning I visit the Andrew (Boy) Charlton pool in the domain and do a few lengths. The image effect was created using the Hipstamatic app on my iPhone.

UFO
The Hipstamatic app transforms a light fitting at work into a flying saucer.

LUNA LIGHTS
Took this image after a work party over at Luna Park, used the Helga filter from the Camera Bag app to give it a flatter tonal quality and make the lights stand out.

SILVER SCULPTURE
Another image from a visit to Boy Charlton where this sculpture features on the harbour shoreline. Converted using the PSMobile app.

So I’m now playing catchup a bit as I’m already into the 76th day of 365:2010. For those that don’t know it’s the simple premise of taking a photo every day, though the rules I have imposed on myself is that the image must have been taken and uploaded on the date, no using old images allowed! So here are my favourite images from January:

Time for another logo update, this time it’s Pepsi, and with a logo change comes an update of package design. These two examples were found in a local supermarket, going left to right, old Pepsi can, new Pepsi can, old Pepsi Max bottle, new Pepsi Max bottle. The change is finally being rolled out in Australia after launching in the US earlier in the year and being rolled out across the world, the UK got the re-brand in August.

As you can see the red, white and blue logo has had a major update and the Pepsi wordmark changes from italicised caps to a circular lowercase font. The introduction over here is a little different to the US, take a look at the rebrand gallery and you’ll notice that the logo is slightly different between standard Pepsi, Pepsi Max and Diet Pepsi products (the white element is thinner in diet products and bigger in the max product, clever ey!).

There’s tons of info out there on the web about the rebrand exercise (though the Australian site isn’t that great or up to date!) so I won’t repeat it all here but if you’re a design geek like me then you can find out more at pepsico.com and in this document detailing how the logo evolved.
