Sunny Sunday afternoon stroll in Bondi

Havaianas

Last Sunday was another sunny winter’s day and I hadn’t been down to Bondi for a while so jumped on the scooter and went down for a stroll. It’s still not quite warm enough for many to venture into the sea other than the surfers, but in the sun it was t-shirt weather. I wandered around part of the Bondi to Bronte walk taking photos back toward Bondi on the way.

I also took the opportunity to try out my new Sigma 10-20mm Ultra Wide Zoom lens, it’s great for landscapes and with the polariser filter the colours just look fantastic (if I say so myself!). Here’s to heading back to the beach in summer…..go take a look at the full set of photos.

Help me I’m melting!

So it’s the start of the Australia Day long weekend and we get one of the hottest days of the summer so far here in Sydney. Rather than a photo this is a screenshot of the Sydney Morning Herald weather page in the afternoon (click on the image for the full size version). Now 40.8°C isn’t exactly the hottest temperature in the world but it’s more than enough for me! It’s the sort of day where you close the windows to keep the heat out.

Later in the afternoon went down to the beach was surprisingly quiet, guess it was too hot for most people but it was a good way to finish the day, however walking across the sand was near impossible, like walking over hot coals….not that I’ve done that but it must be close.

At 6.30pm a southerly change blew in…..that basically means that the winds change direction all of a sudden and blow in from the south. Down here southerlies are nice and cool and the change usually happens real quick, in fact it probably dropped about 10 degrees in 30 minutes and was a very very welcome relief. At that point there was mass exodus of the beach and Sydney’s hottest day in a while was over.

Christmas in the Sand

La Perouse Beach

I’ve had two weeks off over the Christmas and New Year period and we’ve had some fantastic weather, especially today as I write this on New Years Eve, it’s a perfect day for the fireworks which will be lighting up Sydney Harbour later this evening. I managed to get one beach visit in so far which is where the image above was taken.

I recently got myself a new Samsung Omnia mobile phone which has a 5 mega-pixel camera so have been playing around with it. I tried the panoramic setting and was amazed how good it was and how cool the pics looked, I just wish they were a bit bigger. You should open the image full size to see the detail.

Off to the beach tomorrow for New Year’s Day I think as it’s supposed to be 34°C so be good to be near some water…..the only problem being when the air temperature is hot the water feels bloody freezing!
