Getting down to the Bear Essentials

Shower

A few months ago I had a shoot with the Harbour City Bears for their annual Mardi Gras festival, Bear Essentials. Every year bears, cubs, daddies, beefy blokes, and furry dudes of all shapes and sizes come from all over Australia and the world to enjoy this event filled festival.

Rugby

The theme for Bear Essentials 16 is ‘A Whole New Ball Game’, so obviously the photos reflect the sporting theme. Taking inspiration from football, rugby union, rugby league, pool, AFL (Aussie Rules) and more, three affable models got their kit on and off for the shoot at The Oxford Hotel and Kingsteam.

Balls

A number of images are being used both on the website and posters, flyers and media for the festival as a whole and the individual events. You can see all the images from the campaign plus a selection that didn’t make the cut but are stand-outs on Flickr.

Thanks to Harbour City Bears and their President Jonny Bastin for asking me to do the job, plus the models Gavin P, David and Gavin S for their time.

Get Your Gear On

Another month, another photo comp, this time a little different to ones I’ve entered recently. The OzKink Fetish Photographic Competition in association with Sax Fetish, Lucrezia & De Sade, and Star Observer Publications is looking for images depicting fetishwear….any type, colour, shape, fit, doesn’t matter.

The images I’ve selected are from a shoot with Malcolm, a very sexy, hairy fella who happened to bring his harness, jock and boots along too. All entries (space permitting) will be on display at 433 Brunswick St in a two week exhibition from 17th September.

More images from Malcolm’s shoot can be found on Flickr.

Bears Artspace 2011

Lenny 9

I’m currently exhibiting at the Bears Artspace at the Monstrosity Gallery, 93 Bourke St, Woollomolloo, Sydney. The Artspace is part of the Bear Essentials festival run by Harbour City Bears alongside the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival.

After a very busy and successful opening on Monday 21st Februrary I’ve already sold two images which is pretty exciting. The exhibition features 15 emerging artists working in various media. Pictured above is one of the images I have on display, all items are for sale and the exhibition runs until 6pm on Wednesday 2nd March.

Recorded is our love….

Recorded is our love.....

This short love poem drew my attention the other day. It was scrawled on a wall at the back of a petrol station in Surry Hills, Sydney. You don’t often find guys professing their love for each other in grafitti, I just thought it was really cool. I wonder who Dave and Johnny are?

Time for a catch up

Well it’s been a while and my attempts to blog regularly have failed miserably….oh well, things and people to do! It’s been a busy few months photo wise……

Chunky Montage

I’ve done the shoot for a couple of dance parties run by the Harbour City Bears called ‘Chunky’. The posters have been used in various bars and on the streets to promo the events in January and April.

Mardi Gras came and went at the end of February as quick as it always does. Again I got a media pass this year and took images from the pre-parade setup and the parade itself. The weather was kind and it was another successful and fun night.

For Easter this year I visited Auckland and the Tongariro National Park in New Zealand for the long weekend. Stunning scenery and  gorgeous weather helped to make a great, relaxing weekend.

I finally got myself a film scanner so I could scan the negatives from a black and white course I did a year or so ago. My favourites from that course are a series of images I took with a friend of mine called Carlos. Definitely would like to pursue this sort of photography more.

And finally I paid my first visit to Canberra over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend recently. Visited the Australian War Memorial (above) and Parliament House. The main reason for the visit was the Vanity Fair Portraits exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery, had to treat myself to a $120 book from the exhibition full of stunning photographs, would love to be able to produce those sorts of images at some point. However if you don’t like the cold you don’t visit Canberra in the winter!
